A useful update makes changes understandable. Keep the definition and reporting period consistent for recurring metrics. If the calculation changes, explain it rather than creating apparent growth through a different measure.
Choose a few numbers that genuinely matter to your model and stage. No revenue yet is a valid answer. An active pilot, a paid contract and a non-binding expression of interest are different signals.
A small template for your next update
Start with the reporting period and one sentence about the most important development or difficulty. Then use short sections. Not every update needs a new deck.
- Position: what has materially changed since the previous update?
- Evidence: what observation or number supports that statement?
- Open: which assumption or difficulty remains unresolved?
- Next step: what will be tested or completed before the next update?
- Specific help: what introduction, feedback or information would be useful now?
Show what is not working yet
Practice example: Two teams use the pilot regularly; a third has not started. This week we are checking whether setup friction or the lack of an internal owner is responsible. That explains a development and its limits without turning three pilots into three paying customers.
An honest open question can be more useful than a long list of wins. Share sensitive financial, customer or employee information only with the appropriate authorised recipients. Public profile freshness and a confidential investor update are not the same thing.
Then maintain the shared company record
Check whether the new information affects your investment profile. Save changes privately, check consistency and publish deliberately. If nothing has changed, a freshness confirmation may be appropriate; it must not skip unpublished edits.
In FoundMatter, the maintenance status describes freshness and account upkeep, not investment quality or ranking. For investors, the Pipeline plan brings together a weekly overview from the available catalogue. That feature is separate from the founder-written update described here.
